Rappahannock’s trash on an interim basis are at a “dead standstill.”
He added that the supervisors have been apprised of the bid response and will take up the trash issue at their June 1 meeting, just one month before the existing privately owned and operated landfill near Woodville closes and leaves Rappahannock without a disposal site for its solid waste.
Budget allocation is short
The county budget advertised for adoption in this week’s Rappahannock New8 includes $200,000 for refuse collection. That figure is $159,825 short of the Browning-Fer ris bid.
Should the supervisors contract with Browning-Ferris, it is unclear where they will find the extra revenue. They are already drawing $464,228 from accumulated surplus to keep the 1987-88 tax rate at 69 cents per $100 of assessed value.
