• A special exception permit to Emil Smet to subdivide a 20-acre parcel, half of which is zoned agricultural and half residential, into two 10-acre parcels with the understanding that the boundary between the two parcels will follow the dividing line between the two zoning districts.

• A special exception permit to Robert Miko to build a second dwelling on a 95-acre parcel in Harris Hollow. The structure will be put immediately adjacent to Mr. Miko’s residence and is basically a garage but qualifies as a second dwelling since it will have an efficiency apartment overtop.

The planners agreed to advertise with other technical zoning ordinance amendments a provision to allow taxidermy businesses with a special use permit and site plan in agricultural and conservation zones.

“I don’t see any problems (involved with taxidermy) that can’t be controlled by a special use permit,” said Commissioner David Fannon. “All kinds of restrictions can be put on the permit.”

RICHMOND - Governor Gerald L. Baliles announced that travelers’ expenditures in Virginia during 1986 surpassed $6 billion. Figures released by the U.S. Travel Dat* Center in Washington, D.C. indicated that travelers spent 15 percenl more in Virginia in 1986 than ir 1985. Travel expenditures increases] from $5.4 billion in 1985 to $6.1 billion in 1986, ranking tourism as the state’s second largest industry. This is the fourth consecutive year that Virginia tourism revenues exceeded national growth in travel and tourism.

The travel and tourism industry supported more than 137,000 jobs ir 1986 and generated more thar $211.7 million in state taxes, reflecting an increase of 16 percent in tax revenue from 1985.
