A success
By all accounts, the Sperryville Spring Festival lived up to the promises of its organizers. The town was crowded with revelers from mid-morning until late afternoon both Saturday and Sunday.
And even the weather cooperated, saving until late Saturday afternoon the downpour which drenched the opening of the Flower Show in Washington, and repeating the favor Sunday.
The town was spruced up in all its spring best, and whether the residents joined in the festival’s events or just watched the proceedings from their front porches, everyone seemed to epjoy the event.
And more merchants than ever participated, and the new shops opening this season are evidence of Sperryville’s continuing resurgence.
So, we offer our thanks for a pleasant weekend spent with our neighbors, and congratulations on a celebration enjoyed by all, whether county residents or visitors.

The Rappahannock County Garden Club’s Flower Show and Walking Tour, held Saturday in Washington, was yet another example of efforts of an extraordinary group of county citizens.
To call the show spectacular is only to scratch the surface. The single flowers and arrangements exhibited by these amateur gardeners had to be seen to be appreciated.
Although the opening was hampered by the downpour • which hit Washington just before show time, the rest of the afternoon went off without a hitch. The Parish Hall at Trinity Church was bursting with blossoms of every imaginable hue.
And the club’s efforts in beautifying the grounds of the Courthouse and Historical Society building were on display, a living testimony to the labor of love of its members.
