the youngsters who participated in the competition. According to Randall Updike, one of the adult leaders of the Rappahannock 4-H Livestock Club, the proceeds are used to purchase animals for next year’s contest, as well as to defray the costs of feed and other expenses incurred while raising the animals.
Mr. Updike noted that the livestock competitions not only teach the youngsters about animal husbandry, but they learn marketing skills as well.
Fundraisers held by the club during the year, including “lambburger” sales at local events and a raffle, provide the money for activities in which the entire club participates, Mr. Updike said.

attend camp
Cub Scout Pack 50 from Amissville was among nine packs and nearly 90 scouts who enjoyed a day-long camporee on June 25. The camp was held at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal. “Wild West Days” was the theme of this year’s camp.
After the opening ceremonies, presented by Boy Scout Troop 52 of Front Royal, the Cubs participated in four programs. They learned archery, crafts, the skills of trailblazing and conquered an obstacle course. ;
During the quiet period after lunch, the Cubs were entertained by the Order of the Arrow Dancers from the Shenandoah Area Council, who presented a program of authentic Indian dances.

on honor list
Dr. Marilyn C. Beck, President of Lord Fairfax Community College, announced that Peter Skowronski, of Washington, was among the students included on the college’s President’s List for the spring quarter of 1988. The President’s List is composed of all students who complete at least 12 credit-hours with a gradepoint of at least 3.8 out of a 4.0.
Peter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Skowronski of Washington.
