• heard that the town’s Planning Commission is working on a redraft of the subdivision ordinance, with recommendations to be forwarded to the council. Mr. Reynolds suggested that any suggestions be forwarded to William Wickens, the commission’s chairman.
• authorized, over Councilman Peter Skowronski’s objection, the advertisement for a joint public hearing of administrative changes to the historic district ordinance. Mr. Skowronski suggested that the council and planning commission hold separate hearings, to give residents a chance to see the changes, “to digest them and tell us what they think.”
• heard that the fire department is making arrangements for a new home for the thrift shop operated by its Ladies’ Auxiliary. As soon as renovations to the department’s former turkey shoot building are completed, VFD President Gene Leggett told the council, the thrift shop will be moved and the town hall building vacated.
• heard that the Virginia Department of Transportation has agreed to study the parking situation on North Main St. between The Inn and the Washington Cash Store. The council had requested that parking be banned on one side of the street because of safety considerations.
