To the editor:
Last Thursday evening’s meeting at the elementary school was a very interesting example of smallcounty democracy in action. I jokingly referred to it as a “prayer meeting” as we heard several sermons there from some of the proponents of one view or the other. Outstanding, and complimentary to the participants, were the disagreements that never became disagreeable.
One lady did sound a bit exasperated when she stated that she did not want to be dictated to by latecomers. Well, unless you are a member of the Powhatan family, you are a late-comer, and that includes the engineers that made those excellent drawings on the wall. The proponents made good points for each point of view, some of which were very telling and applicable.
However, after going over the drawings and photos carefully, and the highway map of Virginia, one fact emerges clearly. The arterial roads in Rappahannock County are going to be improved, widened, enlarged, four-laned, or whatever. No matter what the zoning restrictions may be, there will be an arterial highway from Warrenton to Thorton
