The Veterans Adminstration has announced that it has discovered files, mostly medical records, on some 10 million veterans. Members of the armed forces who served in World War II or Korea may be affected.
Ever since a fire in 1973, the records center at St. Louis, Missouri has had difficulty in providing military service records and medical records to support veterans’ disability claims. The fire destroyed around 18 million sets of individual hard copy records and also microfilm. Many veterans who filed claims for compensation have been denied because records could not be produced to prove the veterans’ claims of wounds or injuries, the VA explained.
