The county will never be .the same.
The beauty that we now ei\joy along Rt. 231 (which has not been designated as a “Scenic Byway”) will become a thoroughfare for trucks heading for, and returning from, the Front Royal “port,” and the man from California driving his rec vehicle (yes, indeed, he has paid for his right to drive that road!) had better keep his eye on the road and not loiter along gazing at Old Rag; because that tandem rig from an industrial center someplace in the South will be barrelling along trying to maintain his time schedule for Front Royal, and woe to the occasional tourist, or deer, who gets in his way.
All of this is not going to happen tomorrow or the next day, but our children and their children will never know the beauty that was Rappahannock. It will be lost to the sounds and smells of diesels. Not • that any of our local people stand to gain from this “improvement,” but we will all be the losers to the “need” for better and faster highways \ through our County.
