And when a young person does summon up the courage to say “no” to drugs, we must be the first to congratulate him or her. For these are true acts of valor.
Even though the nation as a whole has not turned the so-called corner on the war against drugs, we must tell our young citizens that when they say no to drugs they have turned a personal corner. For every young person who says no to drugs is a link in another kind of chain. Unlike the gold chains worn by drug dealers as a symbol of their mistaken values, the chain I am talking about is the chain of human life.
Each person who says no to drugs is a link in a human chain that symbolizes their commitment to keep drugs out of Virginia. We must encourage the young people of Virginia and throughout the nation to make that chain longer and longer, stronger and stronger. For in numbers there is strength.
The war against drugs is not over — it may never be — but we must continue to carry on the battle against the drug traffickers. If not for ourselves, for our children. For it „is on them that our nation’s fiiture rests.
