Mural class at CCLC
Laurie Marshall will teach a painting class for children between the ages of 8 and 16 from Aug. 15-19 from 3-5 p.m. The students will produce two murals which will be displayed on the outside of the Child Care and Learning Center. They will learn the mathematics of enlarging; gain experience handling acrylic paint; and use teamwork, imagination and concepts of color and design. The cost is $30. Financial aid is available. Higher education meeting
A second meeting will be held to discuss bringing an increased college presence to Rappahannock County on Sunday Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. at Middle Street Gallery in Washington. Anyone interested in teaching and/or taking college level courses is invited, The organizers of this effort are Dr. Denise Horton and Laurie Marshall.
Historical Society picnic
The 18th Century Isaiah Corbin house, now owned by retired Army Colonel and Mrs. Ellis D. Bingham on Rt. 642 one mile from Amissville, will be the setting for the annual picnic of the Rappahannock Historical Society. Members and their personal guests will assemble at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 5. All are requested to bring a covered dish, salad and dessert to share, along with lawn chairs, card tables, etc. for personal use. The Society will provide paper plates, cups, forks, etc. Miss Gladys Kite will review the history of the Corbin place, and discuss other families and their homes and times around Amissville. Only paid up members of the Historical Society are eligible to attend. Dues may be paid at the door.
