being vacated by Paul Trible, addressed about 30 Rappahannock voters last Wednesday during a campaign stop at the county Courthouse in Washington.
During his brief visit, one of many stops on a 10-week swing through the state’s 10 congressional districts, Mr. Dawkins made the following points, which he is stressing in his uphill struggle to beat former Gov. Charles Robb for the Senate seat:
Despite the overwhelming odds facing him, at least according to recent pre-election polls, Mr. Dawkins is not discouraged. He said that he will conduct his campaign “in the same spirit as David in his struggle with Gol|ath,” and he expects the same result - victory.
Mr. Dawkins noted that he is backed by a united Republican party. Senators Trible and Warner, as well as all the Commonwealth’s Republican congressmen and local leaders, have promised to campaign
