To the editor:

I have read a great deal concerning the opposition to the highway department’s upgrading of Rt. 630 at Flint Hill. I personally pressed hard for this work to be done and I feel a need to tell why.

I am a native of this county, as is my father and his father before him. As a child I rode the school bus up Rt. 630 every day. There were two homes on Rt. 630 and three homes on the adjoining Rt. 631. Of the families in these homes only one owned a vehicle. The lovely, winding one lane road was quite adequate due to a very minimum of traffic.

The years passed and others discovered our beautiful county and homes began to spring up all along this lovely little winding road. I said nothing, for I am willing to share the beauty of my county with others.

For the last 11 years I have been the school bus driver who drives Rt. 630 each day. I have seen the traffic increase until it is actually alarming. Within the last five years I have been involved in two separate accidents in my school bus on this road.
