He said he would favor families being able to choose their own day-care system, whether it be a mother staying in the home, grandparents, church-sponsore'd centers or secular daycare centers;
• An end to the federal gasoline tax, since Mr. Dawkins noted that the federal highway system, which the tax was imposed to build, is now 95 percent completed. "It is time to end this flow of money to Washington,” Mr. Dawykins said, suggesting that it remain with the states instead, which better understand their transportation needs;
• The restoration of instruction in moral and spiritual values in the public schools. “Isn’t it ridiculous,” Mr. Dawkins asked, “that drugs and pornography are in our schools, albeit unasked, yet the teaching of moral and spiritual values are forbidden?” He quickly added that he does not advocate the teaching of sectarian religious values, but he insisted that children should be taught the values which the vast majority of Americans accept, not the “valuefree” standards advocated by some liberals. “If our students, tomorrow's leaders, are to understand and act on the moral and spiritual values that have built this country, they must learn them, and partly in the schools.” •
