Big J Trash Service and Piedmont Trash would provide ‘green boxes* as are currently maintained at Huntly and Scrabble. But Community Trash, the firm which now hauls the county’s refuse to the Culpeper dump and previously operated the private landfill with Clifton Clark on Mr. Clark’s property near Woodville, offers to install much larger containers which would remain at the satellite waste stations and be emptied into hauling equipment which would take the waste to the new county landfill. Mr. Updike described this as “a new, innovative waste handling system” which would be “far cleaner in appearance and much easier in convenience than the present system.” County administrator John McCarthy judged all three firms as qualfying for competitive negotiations under the terms of the request for proposals; the board will meet with representatives of the companies beginning at 3 p.m. om Monday, August 8.
