Maple leaf (Canada) Maple-syrup goodness gives t these simple-to-make rolled cookies a slightly nutty flavor. 4 cups all-purpose flour I 1 cup butter or margarine, soft- J ened ! 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar j 1/2 cup maple syrup or maple-fla- < vored syrup 2 eggs 2 tsp. cream of tartar j 1 tsp. baking soda 3/4 tsp. salt About 3-1/2 hours before serving or up to 2 weeks ahead: $ Into large bowl, measure all in- 4 gredients. With mixer at low speed, beat ingredients until well mixed, ■ occasionally scraping bowl with rubber spatula. Shape dough into ball; wrap with plastic wrap. Refrigerate , dough 1 hour or until easy to handle. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease large cookie sheet. On lightly floured surface, with lightly floured rolling pin, roll 1/3 of dough at a time 1/8-inch thick, keeping remaining dough refrigerated. With floured 31/2-inch leaf-shaped cookie cutter, cut dough into leaves. Place cookies 1 inch apart on coo- , kie sheet. Bake 10 minutes or until golden. With pancake turner, carefully remove to wire racks to cool. Repeat until all dough is used, greasing cookie sheet each time. Store cookies in tightly covered container. Makes about 4 dozen.
