Carroll Frye: A “very physical player,” Frye has an excellent shooting touch from the baseline. „. Mike Payne: At 6-foot-5, Payne will see considerable playing time at center. “He has an excellent shooting touch for a big man.”
Daniel Roy: A hustler who adds his skills to the team’s defensive effort, Roy also brings a good shooting touch to the offensive game.
Benji Roy: The second of the three Roy brothers on the team this season, Benji is a great leader and also a good jump shooter.
James Roy: As a freshman, James “possesses probably the most potential of any of the team’s younger players. He has more ability than any freshman I’ve ever coached.” A good outside shooter, James will develop into a major contributor for the Panthers.
Bill Atkins: A good defensive player who shines on the press, Atkins is a skilled ball handler. He should see considerable playing time at point guard.
Philip Daczewitz: Another consistent player, the team relies on him for inside defensive play. A hustler, his left-handed shooting provides balance on the offense.
Zack Allen: A sophmore, Allen is a strong rebounder on the inside. He is developing good moves and can consistently hit open shots.
Tony Williams: Another sophmore, Williams is a very good passer who is particularly effective w'hen he runs the middle on the fast break.
Jamie Walters: A former Rappahannock student who went to Warren County and has transferred back, Walters is ineligible to play until January. He is practicing writh the team every day, and “is a very vital asset to the team even though he can’t play. He works the starters hard in practice, thereby improving them and himself at the same time.”
Coach Leake predicted that the addition of Walters to the team in January will prove to be a “major advantage.” Generally, teams tend to lose players as they come off winter break, and having a player of his caliber join the team will be a boost to the second half of the season. “He’s the kind of guy a coach likes to have around first — then build the rest of the team around him.”
Coach Leake also has two junior “redshirts,” John Woodward at forward and Keith Tobin at guard, who can be brought onto the bench if injuries hit the Panthers.
