Wakefield School’s Latin students were among nearly 1,600 students from 102 schools across the state which gathered for the Virginia Junior Classical League’s annual convention.
Among the activities were competitions in a variety of areas, and a spokesman for the school’s classical languages department pronounced the results a success. Wakefield students “placed well in the competition, especially well as they begin Latin in the sixth grade and were competing against older students in almost all areas.”
The results for Wakefield’s entries in the various competitions are as follows:
Preliminary Certamen, Latin I team; fifth place. Bucky Dusek, Matthew Durbin, Locke Bell and Thomas Palmiere.
Preliminary Certamen, Latin II team; fifth place. Denis Houyoux, Stephanie Tomedon, Rachel Monahan and Ting Ting Chow.
