William Frizell, the new owner of the Hampton Inn, has said he will continue the food services contract while the county is in the process of adding on to the jail, reported the county administrator. “He might work with us on that (if the supervisors are pursuing negotiations on using the school kitchens)," he added.
At Supervisor Massie’s suggestion, the board authorized Mr. McCarthy to write the State Department of Corrections, reporting that Rappahannock is looking at all the options for feeding prisoners, assessing alternatives on the basis of least cost, both for local and state taxpayers.
“We have to decide if this jail addition is a good idea or not a good idea, regardless of whether it’s paid for with local dollars or state dollars," Mr. Massie said.
And the Hampton District representative and Supervisor Charles Estes were named as the board’s representatives to meet with Sheriff Woodward and Dr. Gangel.
