Based on existing hydrological information for the mapping area, a rating between one and 10 is set on each of the seven parameters; the greater the sensitivity to contamination, the higher the rating. The rating (which varies from site to site) is multipled by the weighting factor assigned the parameter (which stays constant), and then those seven figures are added to give an area’s DRASTIC index.
