“Most people are looking for general fitness programs with a little bit of weight loss involved,” he said.

The club^which features exercise equipment, Tree weights and aerobics classes, also participates in community-oriented activities such as sponsoring needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and* visiting schools to promote health and exercise^Clemente says.

“We want a place that has many more events so people will think of it as more than a health club. ”

The Fitness Connection of Leesburg, one of the newest clubs in the area, devotes a third of its operations to cardiovascular exercise because “that’s what you need to survive,” says Jim Singeltary, who owns the center with his wife, Debbie.

Singeltary estimates that most of his customers are in the 25- to 45year-old age bracket.
