Students are encouraged to participate at levels they find comfortable, as instructors demonstrate different degrees of movements.
“Usually the records that are playing on the radio now are the routines that we’re doing,” says Weese, who tape records her jazzercise music and listens to it in the car to familiarize herself with the routines.
Instructors must purchase their own sound equipment, and record players and speakers are available through jazzercise.
Jazzercise instructors must appear energetic even when they have had bad days.
“Sometimes those are my best classes because I really need the release,” Siler says of the days her two children are sick or she has encountered some other difficulty. “When I get to class, it feels so good to get in there and move.”
