The irony is that the line, which runs between the nuclear power plant in Louisa, Va., and a coal mining plant at Mt. Storm, W.Va., does not and was never intended to benefit Rappahannock. And of course we are now discovering that nuclear power in general has turned out to be more expensive and more dangerous than even we who opposed the line had thought and has brought a whole new problem to our environment, namely what to do with nuclear waste.
The only benefit of the giant towers now is to remind us ever to be on guard against that which harms the environment of Rappahannock County and the rest of the world.
