To the editor: I I read with interest your • story about Philip Irwin as “Citijzen of the Year.” With all due respect to Mr. Irwin for his many achievements, there is one that your article attributed to him which I am sure he would not claim: that of having defeated Virginia Electric and Power Co. in its effort to put a 500 kv. line through Rappahannock County.
True, the line was not built along the Fodderstack Valley, which was first proposed, but was merely moved east several miles to mar another beautiful part of Rappahannock County. Anyone who doesn’t believe this can come by our farm two miles east of Route 522 on Route 637 and see the Vepco towers that run through the eastern edge of Rappahannock County.
