Moore leaves

Louis P. Moore Jr., local farmer and orchardist, was honored at a luncheon recently for his nine years’ service on the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Committee.
According to regulations, a committeeman may not serve more than three consecutive terms of three years each on the county committee. Mr. Moore’s term expires Dec. 31.
The last month of Mr. Moore’s term found him fully involved in committee work, with an unusually busy schedule of three meetings during December. The need for additional meetings resulted from the numerous applications for disaster assistance filed during the past few months. Each application requires a number of committee determinations and have to be reviewed carefully.
Mr. Moore expressed his concern for timely action on disaster requests, and thanked local producers for their patience.
Beginning Jan. 1, Mr. Moore will be replaced on the county ASC committee by Thomas B. Massie, who was elected to that position by other farmers from his district at a convention held Dec. 15. The county committee’s other two members are I.R. Kilby and James F. Massie Jr. James F. Massie Jr., previously elected as an alternate to the county committee, is now filling the unexpired term vacated by Thomas V. Williams Jr., who became the county’s agricultural extension agent in August.
