“DRASTIC is totally inaccurate for site-specific analysis. All it’s supposed to do is raise the red flag when somebody wants to do something in an area DRASTIC has identified as fragile,T the county administrator explained.
The PEC report itself points out that the information conveyed by a DRASTIC map is very generalized. “In making site-specific analysis and land-use evaluations for a particular property, DRASTIC should only be used as an indicator of possible concern,” the report states. “In other words, if a proposed use is to be located in an area with,a high DRASTIC index range and is of such a nature as to possibly impact on the ground water (through discharges, etc.), then decision-making bodies would be justified in requesting detailed information on mitigative measures or ground water quality on the site.”
