They both love camping arid the opportunity to make life long friends in the scouting program. And neither can understand why the once popular boys’ organization now finds itself clamoring for members. “Being a Boy Scout gives you an opportunity to learn so many things you wouldn’t ordinarily learn,” said the junior Giles.
“All over the country, troops are having problems filling their ranks,” his father reported. “Boys who are 11 to 18 years old today are into so many different things now than when I was a boy. They are more interested in girls, sports and getting their driving license. When I was a Boy Scout we had about 20 boys in our troop. All of them lived real close to the Washington Baptist Church where we met. Now there are only ten kids in Troop 123
