wouldn’t be worth more than a plugged nickel. Was the man fined for having too good a gun? Then, too, “to plug” also means to shoot. Was the man fined for carrying a gun that had never been fired? “Plug also means to advertise; could Virginia law really proscribe shooting with an unadvertised gun?
There are many definitions of the word “plug” and I won’t trouble you with all the possibilities I considered. A plugged gun, I have sinced learned (not from you), is a gun that has a device in its magazine that limits the number of rounds that can be loaded at one time. But why is there a law against unplugged guns? Why is “Bang! Bang! Bang! Pause.” better than “Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!?”
You also reported that a man was fined for “peep through property.” What’s that? We all know about peeping toms but it is what they peep at that makes their crimes despicable not what the toms peep through, whether curtains, Venetian blinds, or even transoms. This, clearly, can’t be a peeping tom case.
Toms peep, but so, too, do young birds. And, in the past when I was in a light-hearted mood, upon hearing a bird peep I would often peep right back. It might even be said that I have peeped all through my property. Have I thus offended law and the decorum of Rappahannock County? Until I know more, I shall peep no more, at least until spring.
