For Skip, seeing the children enjoying a walk in the woods was all the payment he needed. After leading a class of four-year-olds along the trail, Skip said, “When I saw them on the trail today, it made me glad that I did it. They really seemed to enjoy it. It seemed that the kids like it -- that touched me.”
The class’s teacher, Tammy Ehrhart, agreed with Skip’s assessment. “My kids love it! I take them up there at least twice a week.”
The project has left a legacy for Troop 123 as well, according to Skip. It will need periodic maintenance: clearing new vines and sapling sprouts, and renewing the wood chip base of the path. That could be part of yet another Eagle project for another member of Troop 123, he suggested.
