The wrong choice
J. Marshall Coleman, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, said Tuesday that he intends to pick up his attacks against Lt. Gov. Douglas Wilder’s record during the last month of the campaign. ■ According to Wednesday’s Richmond Times-Dispatch, Mr. Coleman feels that the questions about his personal and professional dealings relate to Mr. Wilder’s fitness to hold office.
Unfortunately, we think that Mr. Coleman has made the r wrong choice. Apparently smarting from Monday’s debate with his Democratic opponent, Mr. Coleman seems to be choosing the low road — on which he’s proven himself a master in past campaigns.
But another month of personal attacks is not what the voters of Virginia need. What we need are some reasons to elect Mr. Coleman — rather than reasons not to elect Mr. Wilder. I.
