Recycling in Washington
This Saturday, Jan. 20, the Town of Washington will begin its voluntary recycling program. The curbside service, in conjunction with the regular trash pickup, is offered at no charge to town residents, and will be held on the third Saturday of each month. Additional pickups will be scheduled if participation warrants. Sturdy cardboard boxes, apple crates or small trash cans are suggested as collection containers, they will be returned. Glass should be rinsed and caps removed, labels may be left on. It should be sorted into brown, green and clear colors. Aluminum cans should be rinsed and may be crushed to conserve space. Foil, pie tins pots, pans and lawn furniture are also accepted if all non-aluminum parts are removed. Newspapers should be bundled with r&tural fiber string or packed in paper bags. Go not mix slick-paper magazines with the newspapers. Lotto game begins
The Virginia Lottery's Lotto game began Wednesday, Jan. 17. The county's outlet is Hillsdale Grocery on U.S. 211 between Massies Corner and Ben Venue, which reported that customers were standing in line to buy tickets when the game started at 6 a.m. Players select six numbers from between one and 44, and anyone matching three, four, five or six of six wins a prize. Prizes ^re shared between ail players with winning combinations, with a guaranteed $1 million jackpot. Odds for the jackpot are approximately one in 7 million. Drawings will be held each Saturday evening at 10:58 p.m., and televised on Virginia's public television stations.
