Now that Medicare has been changed, consumers who also have Medigap policies can expect the Medigap premium to change. “The basic premiums went up last year because of rising medical costs, even when the catastrophic coverage was in effect,” said Ms. Leech. Without the support for catastrophic care in Medicare, the premiums are bound to rise further, she predicted.
The federal agencies involved in the collection and planning for the Medicare program, including the Social Security Administration, are still working to carry out the changes that Congress made.
