The Inn at Little Washington has outgrown its present quarters, and owners Patrick O’Connell and Reinhardt Lynch are planning a major expansion of the world-renowned restaurant and inn.
They will present their plan to Washington’s Planning Commission next Monday, Jan. 22. As a first step, they will ask that the rest of the block from the back of the present Inn to Calvert St. be rezoned from Village Residential to Village Mixed Use.
Also to be considered by the Planning Commission are two zoning ordinance amendments; one, which would allow, by special use permit, a maximum structure height of 45 feet, the other, to allow parking for non-residential uses either on the same property or off-site on property under the same ownership.
The proposed expansion will also require a special use permit to allow the operation of a hotel and restaurant in the Mixed Use zone, a special use permit to exercise the height waiver, and a waiver of setback requirements for the new building. Those permits, however, will not be considered until a later date.
The expansion has been made necessary, according to owner and chef Mr. O’Connell, by the increasing popularity of The Inn’s accomodations as well as its food. “Almost everyone who comes here wants to stay, but we have no facilities to do that now. Some also want to stay
