In an impassioned oration during last week’s Town Council meeting, Ray Gooch accused fellow council member William Wickens of attempting to coerce him into resigning from the council.
Mr.^Vickens denied that his visit was intended as a threat or an intimidation, and said “my message was entirely misunderstood.”
Speaking on a point of personal privilege as the meeting began, Mr. Gooch told the council and audience that Mr. Wickens had visited him on Sunday morning, Jan. 7. “Over coffee at the kitchen table, Mr. Wickens told me that a confidential souce had given him information which he deemed reliable, and if true, it would be very damaging. He told me that if I resigned quietly he thought the story could be contained.”
