Trapezoid’s new lineup, from left: Martha Sandefer, Paul Reisler, Bob Read and Cheryl Hurwitz.

Fans of the local music group, Trapezoid, will have an opportunity to hear them with their newest member, Martha Sandefer, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 at the LiveArts Performance Space in Charlottesville.

LiveArts is located at 609 E. Market St. in the old Michie Building.

Ms. Sandefer, from Boston, Mass., joined the group in April. According to Trapezoid founder Paul Reisler, “The response to Ms. Sandefer’s singing has been fantastic. On our southern tour last week, we were overwhelmed by standing ovations twice each night after songs Ms. Sandefer sang.”

She also plays guitar and bass and has been performing as a solo * artist for the past 10 years. She has worked as a professional studio singer and has recorded and toured extensively with former Paul Winter Consort member, Jim Scott as well as the New Christy Min.strels.

Her most recent solo album, “The Dream is Still Alive,” features many of her original songs. She was trained at the Berkley College of Music and the University of Maryland.

The unique vocal and instrumental ensemble, joining Ms. Sandefer and Mr. Reisler, who plays guitar, bass, doumbec and hamrnVr dulcimer, are Bob Read (winds, keyboards and vocals), and Cheryl Hurwitz (violin and vocals).

The four-member group will also introduce music from its new recording for Narada Equinoz, “Moon Run.” The new album, Trape- f zoid’s sixth career recording and their first for the Narada label, is a collection of music that adds a refined contemporary touch to the group’s rich musical tradition.

Tickets for the performances on June 1 at LiveArts in Charlottesville are available in advance at Plan 9 Records, Williams Corner Books, Back Alley Disc and Disctraxshuns in Charlottesville.
