The inn grows grapes for the house-label wines in the inn’s on-site vineyard, which covers eight of the farm’s 80 acres.
House wines are made from the vineyard’s cabernet, seyval blanc and chardonnay grapes. The Bleu Rock’s wines are for sale at the inn and are also available at a few D.C. area restaurants.
The lunches, said Mr. Stamer, were begun by the restaurant to attract more of a local clientele. An estimated 90 percent of the dinner customers come from the D.C. area.
“This place is so nice and has such beautiful views that people look at us as a place for special occasions. Which is great, but this place is for every day,” said Mr. Stamer. He asked friends in Rappahannock what they would want in a lunch menu, and they told him they want to get in and out, taxes and tip included, for under $8. So he designed the lunch menu accordingly.
“Lunch is often viewed” in the restaurant world “as a community service,” said Mr. Stamer. “We hope it brings in people who otherwise would not come here.”
“So far the response has been great,” said Ms. Hufnagel. Only available for a few weeks, the lunches are already attracting repeat customers.
Lunch is available Mondays and Tuesdays only, but a brunch is served every Sunday for a fixed price of $16.50.
The catering business, Bleu Rock Catered Affairs, is something Ms. Hufnagel hopes to expand on during the winter, when the tourist business dies down a little. Bleu Rock recently catered to 1,258 people for the Gold Cup Association.
Ms. Hufnagel is trying to help coordinate her reservation schedule with Rappahannock bed and breakfasts. “Each has a different personality,” she said. “When our rooms are full we have referred the overflow to them. They send us meals and we give them room guests. It works out well.”
Limousine service from D.C. is being coordinated with Dominion Limousine, with a fixed price Friday night dinner for $85.
The second Fridays of each month the inn offers winetasting dinners with specially selected menus.
Weddings are also becoming an important part of the restaurant’s business, said Ms. Hufnagel.
They also offer a mid-week dinner special Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Call for details.
For those wanting to stay the night, the inn’s rooms are comfortable, well-designed and reasonably priced.
