The tragedy that struck the Brady family is only worsened when one realizes that John Hinkley is living in relative luxury, including weekend trips to his parents. A man convicted of murder in Georgia was recently paroled after only 10 years, in the premise that he would not ever return to Georgia. Historically, this person will kill again faced with the same circumstances, and he will find a gun regardless of the outcome of the Brady Bill.
Instead of new laws, we should enforce the laws already in existence and demand maximum penalties; It is already illegal to shoot someone. It seems redundant to pass a law that states, “you cannot own a gun if you are going to shoot someone.; It is already illegal for people on parole to own or carry a gun. The passage of the Brady Bill will accomplish two things. It will cost the taxpayers a fortune to implement and enforce, and it will make it appear that Congress has accomplished something.
The honest majority must send a message to these criminals through our local prosecutors that we are fed up with “slaps on the wrist.” We are the ones who are becoming prisoners in our own homes while crime runs rampant. Also, write your senator and tell him that you feel that the Brady Bill is punishing the honest citizen and doing little to make the streets safer.
