; Coach Tim Corder said he started the season with only two runners on the cross country team. With four days to go before the first meet, he finally picked up enough runners to make a team of five.
Jason Waters won the trophy for the most improved runner.
Soccer coach Mike Tupper said at the start of his season “the grass was long and the gnats were thick. We didn’t have a winning season, but I didn’t have one player give up on it,” he said. He gave the trophy for most improved player to Patrick O’Meara decribing him as “an outstanding person.”
The trophy for the most valuable player in soccer went to Jeremy Tole. Coach Tupper noted that Mr. Tole “loves the game” and will be playing in Europe this summer. He plans to try out for the University of Virginia’s team next fall.
For boys’ basketball, coach Gary Leake gave the trophy for most improved player to Bobby Jenkins. He said Mr. Jenkins “didn’t make the eighth-grade team, and barely made l the junior varsity team as a sopho! more.” He had been playing varsity basketball for the past two years and
