Should Mr. Beyer decide to run for governor, state senators Moody E. Stallings Jr. of Virginia Beach and Robert C. Scott of Newport News are among those being touted as possible Democratic successors. Mr. Scott, though, seems more likely to run for Congress.
Former state party chairman Larry Framme, now Secretary of Economic Development, appears to have the inside track for the Democratic nomination for attorney general.
On the Republican side, Del. Clinton Miller of Shenandoah and retired businessman Earl Williams both say they are interested in running for governor if they can drum up support.
