Washington fireworks: July 28

The fireworks show for the town of Washington, rained out on Independence Day, has been rescheduled for dusk on Sunday, July 28. The celebration coincides with the town's 242nd birthday.

The day starts at 5 p.m. with oldtime games and relay races for children of all ages. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will be selling a variety of foods, from pork barbecue to cornon-the-cob.

The Soccer League will sell “a zillion" cupcakes that comprise the town's birthday cake.

On the lawn at Avon Hall there will be live music and dancing preceedingthe pyrotechnics.

The grand finale of the party will be, of course, the fireworks, artfully set to music.

An abundance of parking will be available at the low cost of $2 per car. The games, entertainment and fireworks are free.

In case of rain, the party and fireworks will be held on Sept. 1.
