to hit Warrenton
Weekend features music
Parking lots transformed into beaches, sand castles, live crab races, treasure hunts, coconut bowling, island dance and limbo contests are all part of the third annual Tropical Madness, a Caribbean festival in Old Town Warrenton, the last weekend in July,
The weekend will kick off on Friday, July 26, with a street dance on Court House Square from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. On stage, Baby Huey and The Babysitters, a 10piece beach band, will feature music from the ’50s and ’60s and Motown to establish the feeling and tone of the beach.
It is sponsored in part by Budweiser and The Fauquier National Bank. Admission is only $1.
The evening will include a “limbering” limbo contest and a swinging dance contest. Prizes for contests will be donated by local merchants and local restaurants will be on hand to provide local favorites for purchase.
The weekend of madness continues Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. with a volleyball tournament, family sandcastle-building contests, live crab races, coconut bowling, and a childrens’ treasure hunt where kids can hunt for $100 in mixed silver coins buried in the sand. '
Day turns into night as the Bluemont Concert Series presents The Pan Masters Steel Band at 7 p.m. as a finale to the weekend festivities.
