along with his design. The bottom of the shield has a torch, a book, and apples. A motto, “Let Justice Prevail," appears above the shield and “Rappahannock County, Va.H below it. Mr. Eastham said the motto was “adopted from the 1833 seal.” According to> C.E. and Elizabeth Johnson’s “Rappahannock County History,” the county purchased a seal for $66.84 in October, 1833. This seal was “to be used on all county documents.” It is shown on page 32 of the book. The words “Circuit Court of Rappahannock County, Virginia” are around the seal. The design in the middle is not clear, but appears to depict Dame Justice. Circuit Court Clerk Diane Bruce says she has never seen this seal. A final design was submitted by Jack Reeder of Washington. Mr. Reeder’s design has no writing. It depicts a house, apple tree, and mountains. The entries in the contest can be seen in the waiting room of the courthouse when the courthouse is open. '
