All five members of the Board of Supervisors are candidates for reelection, and so far no one has appeared to challenge any of them.
All are running as independents.
The five responded to three questions posed by the Rappahannock News: Why were they seeking another term? What did they consider the main accomplishments during their tenure on the board? What did they see as the major challenges facing the board and county in the next four years?
Stonewall-Hawthom District’s Robert P. Anderson, 59, has been on the board the shortest time. When Nelson Lane resigned in March 1989, Mr. Anderson was appointed to the vacancy, and he won the right to serve the remainder of the term in an election that November.
Mr. Anderson is a farmer and former pilot for Eastern Airlines. He was born in Alabama and has lived in Rappahannock County for 23 years. Before being appointed to the Board of Supervisors, he represented the district on the Planning Commission. He is president of the Rappahannock Farm Bureau and a former president of the Lions Club.
He explained his interest in seeking another term by saying, “I have epjoyed serving the citizens of the county and learning the workings of the county government.”
