He said he was seeking another term because “Rappahannock has always been home to me. Over the years I have developed a great respect for the land and its people. I am interested in the county retaining the good qualities that make Rappahannock the great place it is.”
As accomplishments during his tenure Mr. Estes cited the renovation of the ^.courthouse, jail, and county administrator’s office, the landfill, the new library, the expansion and renovation of the high school, the renovation and upgrading of the Potomac Edison substation in Sperryville, the Sperryville sewer system, “plus many improvements to primary and secondary roads.”
Mr. Estes added, “Rarely, if ever, is a major project completed without teamwork between the Board of Supervisors, other boards and commissions, other county officers, staffs and individuals.”
The major problem facing the county in the next four years is state funding “due to the current economic situation,” Mr. Estes said. “This is an unknown factor,” he added. “Words from Richmond seem to be ‘maybe, possibly, best guesstimate, slight surplus and cuts.’ ”
The second problem he mentioned was “local funding, which is hand-in-glove with the first problem.” He added, “The county landfill will always be a problem, such as
