The Water and Sewer Authority learned that it will have to hold a public hearing before adopting the new tap fees or raising the rates for the Sperryville sewer system.
Attorney Douglas Baumgardner advised members that they would have to advertise for two weeks and then wait 60 days before holding the hearing and taking action on the new fees and rates.
That will barely give the authority time to act before new bills are mailed at the end of September.
The current budget is based on a rate of $15.50 per month per equivalent dwelling unit. The current rate of $14.10 per month would not cover the cost of operating the plant for the year and the needed addition of a dechlorinator.
