appear on other shields, is a man on a tractor. A hardwood tree appears to the left of the shield and an evergreen tree to the right.
Grape vines connect the two trees, and apple trees are shown in the lower part of the design. At the bottom are round hay bales. “Rappahannock County of Virginia” and “1838” appear on the seal.
The only design that is not round was submitted by Robert Eastham of Flint Hill. Mr. Eastham’s design is a vertical rectangle. At the top is a mountainous skyline. The rest of the design is a blue background containing a shield. The top of the shield is the flag of Company B of the Sixth Regiment of the Virginia Cavalry of the Confederate Army. Company B was formed on April 22,1861 and “was composed of young men from the county,” Mr. Eastham said. It was called the Rappahannock Cavalry.
