Land-use applications accepted

The county government is now accepting applications for participation in the land-use taxation program for 1992. Application must be made between Aug. 15 and Nov. 1.

All existing participants, as well as any new applicants, must contact Commissioner of the Revenue Beverly Atkins during the week between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to arrange an appointment and to get information on fees.

Changes in the law may require new forms or documentation in order to qualify.

Anyone using their land for agricultural orforestal purposes may apply, and participants are assessed at a lower rate, usually between $250 and $700 an acre, said Ms. Atkins. Most other land is assessed between $1,500 and $3,000 per acre, she said.

This year approximately 1,350 landowners participated, out of 5,500 taxable parcels in Rappahannock. '
