Although he lists his occupation as “retired" on his biographical form, William A. Buntin is in court two or three days a week serving as bailiff for the Rappahannock Sheriffs Office.
His wife Elizabeth has been more successful at retiring. She volunteers half a day each week as secretary at Trinity Episcopal Church.
He was raised on a tobacco farm in Halifax County. She grew up in upstate New York, and then her family moved to Massachusetts. In 1943 when they met and married, World War II was on and he was with the military police stationed in _ . , Massachusetts, and she was teaching school.
The Army sent him to Florida, and Mrs. Buntin taught officers to train civilians to take over office duties, while he continued as an MP. Then the Army decided to transfer him to a laundry unit and send him to the Pacific war, but he never saw combat. By the time his ship got to Hawaii, the wrar was over in
