“Then, I started singing some Christian rock,” she said, adding she would perform at revivals, church functions and prayer meetings.
Rock ’n’ roll was all new.
“But, I really epjoy it,” she said.
Besides Mrs. Gentry on vocals, The Outcasts features Mr. McKeown, Mr. Vaughn and Mr. Holler.
The fifth band member is guitarist Tyler Laing of Warrenton.
“He is a very accomplished musician,” Mr. McKeown said, adding his years in the business have been long.
Together the five created the band, The Convertibles.
That was over six months ago.
“We heard there was another band in Charlottesville with the same name,” Mr. McKeown said, adding the band was forced to change their name.
There was some dissension among band members.
“No one wanted to play with us anymore,” Mr. McKeown said, adding for this reason when the band reorganizd they chose the name, “The Outcasts. We were outcasts.”
Since their reorganization, the band has been busy.
They opened for the new Cashway Cafe in Culpeper and are the house band in the future.
They play at Napoleon’s Cafe in Warrenton and Cashway Cafe in Hamilton.
“We’re relatively new but we are old,” Mr. McKeown said, adding they are looking for more bookings in the future.
“Ifs its oldies you want, then, we have it,” he said adding the group hopes to do grand openings, car shows, seasonal festivals and other events in the area.
