Europe, and by the time he got to his destination of Okinawa, the war was over in the Pacific also. So the Army sent him to Korea and then Japan, and then sent him home and discharged him.

He answered an ad for recruits for the Virginia State Police, and when the Buntins came to Rappahannock County in 1946, he was the new state trooper assigned to the county. There hadn’t been a state policeman assigned to Rappahannock since 1943 when Gene Wood retired.
