When I began this column three and a half years ago, I told subscribers that I would not comment at any time on Congressman D. French Slaughter Jr. or his activities since he was my employer and it would not be journalistically ethical.
I think, however, I may be forgiven if I break the self-imposed rule just once in light of the fact that on July 1 French Slaughter announced he will resign his congressional seat due to a series of mild strokes that have affected his ability to articulate.

Flint Hill's
bake stand
To the Editor:
I would like to say thank you to all those from the community of Flint Hill and surrounding areas, for their generous donations to the bake stand at the Flint Hill Carnival. Everyone was more than willing to help and made my first year successful and enjoyable.
A special thanks goes to Paula Murphy (all the way from Waldorf, Md.), Mary Blaisdell, and Ardis East, who helped me sell “every little crumb.”
